Academic Probation and Suspension

LSSC students who encounter the message “Academic Standing Prohibits Registration” when trying to register in LOIS have an academic status that has fallen into one of three categories: Probation, Continued Probation, or Suspension.

What You Need to Know

Your Lake-Sumter State College Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), including transfer grades, will be used to determine academic progress.

  • Good Standing, An all college GPA of at least 2.0 with seven or more credits attempted.
  • Probation, Students who have attempted seven (7) or more college credits with less than a 2.0 all-College GPA (excluding college preparatory courses) will be placed on Probation for their next term of enrollment.  (Probation Video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwWSnjw8pcU&feature=player_embedded)
  • Continued Probation, Continued Probation will occur when the student earns a minimum 2.0 term GPA and the all college GPA remains below a 2.0. The student will return to Good Standing when the all-College GPA is a 2.0 or higher.
  • Suspension, Students will progress to suspension for one semester if the term and all-College GPA fall below a 2.0.  Students who return after suspension will be placed on continued probation. Students suspended again will be academically dismissed for a period of one calendar year if the all-college GPA falls below 2.0

Next Steps

 Requesting Additional Hours

  • A student’s academic standing dictates the maximum number of credits they can take in a given semester.
  • Student’s wishing to appeal for additional hours must follow the guidelines found on the Academic Monitoring and Request for More Hours Form.docx and must have completed forms submitted for each of their current courses.
  • Please allow a reasonable time period for your instructors to complete the academic monitoring portion of the form and for a decision to be made and processed.
  • Completed forms should be forwarded to Scott Pennington, Lead Academic Advisor at pennings@lssc.edu
