Lake-Sumter Teams Excel in the Classroom

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released the 2011-2012 NJCAA All-Academic Teams and the Academic Student-Athlete Awards this past week.
All three of the Lake-Sumter Community College Athletic teams qualified and were recognized as All-Academic Teams among the 450 teams that qualified for these accolades. The LSCC baseball team had the 21st highest GPA in the nation and was ranked second in the state among baseball teams; the LSCC volleyball team was 64th in the nation and ranked 4th in the state among volleyball teams; the LSCC softball team was 78th in the nation and 3rd in the state among softball teams.
The following LSCC student-athletes received Academic All-American Awards:
Bryeona Creech (Volleyball), Austin Periera (Baseball) and Christopher Suto (Baseball) received Superior Academic Achievement Awards; Nathan Damaron(Baseball), Jonah Davis (Baseball), Tyler Kellman (Baseball), Jordann Dierickx (Volleyball), Nicole Glen (Volleyball), and Cassandra Ridge (Softball) all received Exemplary Academic Achievement Awards.
Athletic Director, Mike Matulia noted that “this is the first time in LSCC history that nine student-athletes have been recognized as Academic All-Americans. Congratulations to our student-athletes, their coaches, the faculty and the Laker Athletic Program!”.
