While the folks up north are still digging out of the snow and ice, spring is in the air here in Florida and that means the start of another exciting year of Lakers Baseball. It is my pleasure to bring greetings and welcome our loyal and enthusiastic fans and to say “thank you” to our sponsors and benefactors. Lake-Sumter Community College strives to offer a high quality, well rounded experience for our student athletes. Thanks to the outstanding job done by our administration, faculty and coaches, students are well prepared, both in the classroom and on the field, to compete at the next level. We are proud of the program Mike Matulia has built during the past nine years. LSCC continues to expand and enhance our academic and career education offerings to meet the needs of our community. On the Leesburg Campus, students are enjoying the newly renovated Liberal Arts Classroom Building while anxiously awaiting the completion in August 2007 of our new state of the art 50,000 s.f. Science Building. These facilities will create a better learning environment for all of our students and provide space for new and expanded programs. At South Lake, we are working with Lake County Government on two projects. First, we are collaborating to build a 50,000 sf Library for students and the community. Second, we are working with the County on a multi-field softball complex for our team’s use as well as for community and tournament play. The big news on our Sumter Campus is the award of a state grant that will build on our existing Utility Lineworker Program and make LSCC the statewide center for responding to the training needs of the electric utility industry. LSCC’s students continue to excel in their studies here and after graduation, whether they continue on to the University or enter their chosen career. Thank you for your support of our student-athletes. Go Lakers! |
