LSSC Announced Distinguished Alumni &Hall of Fame Inductees
The Lake-Sumter State College Foundation, Inc. and the LSSC Alumni Association kicked off its first Annual Distinguished Alumni & LSSC Hall of Fame as part of the 50 year celebration of LSSC. The inaugural event marked its place in LSSC history with over 220 in attendance including local and state politicians, community and business members, current and former faculty and staff members, students and LSSC Alumni. The event was emceed by State Representative Marlene O’Toole, who has been a longtime friend and supporter of Lake-Sumter State College.
We received over 70 applications for the Inaugural event and a committee of LSSC alumni board members, as well as Faculty and Staff selected the recipients. The selections were based on peer recommendations and notable accomplishments in one of these categories: professional, personal, academic, support of LSSC, and community service.
This year’s Distinguished Alumni consists of eight inductees including, Dr. Mary Jo Rager, Service to LSSC; Margo Odom, Service to Home Community; Kenneth Kay, Professional Achievement; Colonel Richard Baysinger, President’s Award; Christyne Hamilton, Service to Education; Tamara Chaplin, Young Alumni; Deborah Boggus, Volunteer for Service to LSSC; and Maria Granado, Against the Odds. LSSC also inducted six into their Hall of Fame and those winners are, Ernie Morris Enterprises, Inc., Ron Morris, President & Tim Morris, Vice President, Corporate Partner; Anne W. Thompson, LSSC Investor; Jacqueline Talley, LSSC Trustee, along with Joyce Brautcheck, Bonnie Holloway, and Dr. Paul P. Williams, who were chosen to receive the LSSC Faculty and Staff Award.
At the ceremony a formal awards presentation was given and video highlights of events throughout the year that have has been sponsored by the Alumni Association as well as an opportunity to reconnect with other alumni. The LSSC Alumni Association will be calling for nominations for the 2013 Distinguished Alumni & LSSC Hall of Fame during the month of July do not miss the opportunity to nominate someone.
