Locating a Book using Library of Congress Call Numbers

In what order do call numbers appear on the shelf?
Call numbers are arranged line by line, and are read the same way. As you read through each line, you come closer to the location of the book:

Although subject searching in the online catalog is usually the most efficient, browsing the shelves can also help you locate material appropriate for your topic. Since books are classified by subject, you may find other useful books in the same area on the shelf. For example, within the subject classification LB 2395, there may be several guides about how to study.
