Characteristics:
- Published daily or weekly
- Articles are usually very brief
- Authors are usually local; some national authors are used
- Provide local information and perspectives
- Include opinion articles and editorials that offer a glimpse of how people interpret events
- Can provide context for historical or social events
- Many ads to generate profits
- Do not provide scholarly analysis
- Do not always report the source of their information
