Lake-Sumter Community College

Student Administrative Appeals

Lake-Sumter Community College is committed to ensuring that all students receive access to a fair, equitable and timely grievance process without retaliation. LSCC seeks to maintain clear pathways for students who wish to lodge complaints or pursue grievances and appeals.  To provide these pathways, the College maintains a responsive system designed to address and resolve student complaints.

The student grievance resolution process includes:

1.     Informal Complaints

2.     Formal Complaints/Grievances

3.     Appeals

Students have the right to appeal administrative decisions and are encouraged to use available informal means in the resolution of the complaint prior to filing a formal complaint or grievance. If the matter cannot be resolved through the informal process as shown in the LSCC Resolution of Student Complaints/Grievances Chart below, the student may elect to proceed through a formal written process through the Administrative Appeals Committee.

Appealing Administrative Decisions:

Students should use all available informal means to have decisions reconsidered before filing a formal complaint or grievance.

Please see the informal student complaint and grievance resolution chart in the LSCC Catalog & Student HandbookIf the matter cannot be resolved through informal administrative channels, the student may appeal in writing to the Student Administrative Appeals Committee as detailed in LSCC Procedure 4-14.

LSCC Grade Grievances:

The appeal of a grade must be made to the faculty member who issued the grade no later than the last day of the full semester that follows the semester in which the grade was given. For detailed grade appeal information, please see the LSCC Catalog & Student Handbook.

Equity and Title IX Grievances:

The College President is the Chief Equity Officer for Lake-Sumter Community College. To enhance effective monitoring and implementation of affirmative action, the President has appointed an Equity Coordinator who serves as a resource person for equity and is responsible for monitoring the College's affirmative action program. Inquiries concerning the above-mentioned commitments, including Title IX, should be stated on the Equity Issue Report and Request for Appointment form and submitted to the College Equity Coordinator. Inquiries concerning implementing regulations for Title IX may also be referred to the Office of Civil Rights.
