THE LSCC STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We want to do our part to help you have the best possible experience during your time at LSCC.  Balancing one's studies and personal life can be difficult. Rather than becoming overwhelmed by these often-competing demands, students can learn to cope more effectively with the right skills and support.

LSCC is committed to assisting students in developing these tools to deal with stress and other troubles when they arise. The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides support in dealing with the pressures and challenges students face during their academic and professional careers.

The 2010 National College Health Assessment reports that in the last academic year:

  • 44% of students said they felt hopeless at least once

  • 83% felt overwhelmed at least once

  • 49% felt overwhelmed by anxiety at least once

  • 6% seriously considered suicide

  • 30% felt so depressed that it was difficult to function at least once

Accessing SAP services

Begin by making an appointment with your campus SAP referral staff member:

During your appointment, our LSCC staff will work with you to help you clarify your concerns and explore if ongoing counseling or other community services are needed.

Once you meet with your SAP referral staff member, you will receive a referral form and phone number to call and make your first appointment.

What is the Student Assistance Program?

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) provides confidential professional counseling services for all LSCC students. Your participation in the SAP is completely confidential and voluntary.

What types of concerns does the SAP address?

Services include, but are not limited to, assistance with the following:

  • Life improvement issues
  • Difficulties in relationships
  • Stress and anxiety issues with work, school and family
  • Personal achievement
  • Emotional well-being
  • Depression
  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Grief

Who can use the Student Assistance Program?

All currently enrolled LSCC students are eligible for up to five sessions with a licensed clinician in our local area.

How much does the SAP cost?

The SAP is completely funded by LSCC student activity and service fee.  Currently enrolled LSCC students are eligible for up to five free sessions per academic year. 

As a student, how do I access SAP services?

Securing a referral SAP services is simple.

Can LSCC Faculty and Staff refer a student to the SAP?

Any member of the LSCC staff and faculty can refer a student to SAP if they are concerned about the student’s behavior.  Faculty and Staff should contact their campus SAP referral staff member for more information.
